For our November „Staff Pick“ Project of the Month, we selected Maxima, a computer algebra system largely written in Common Lisp, and comparable to commercial systems like Mathematica and Maple. It emphasizes symbolic mathematical computations, such as algebra, trigonometry, calculus and more. Maxima can calculate with exact integers and fractions, and also native floating-point and high-precision big floats. Maxima has user-friendly front ends, an online manual, plotting commands and numerical libraries. It is maintained and extended by an active community, and is the perfect tool for engineering, research and education. Download Maxima now.
